Oak Park is a homely environment where service provided is complete, and comfort and security is assured.

At Oak Park we provide care for people suffering with Alzheimers and other dementia related illnesses who require the care and security that our Stage-3 rest home provides.

We are situated on the border of Cornwall Park (One Tree Hill Domain). This beautiful park environment adds to the tranquility and peaceful atmosphere of our rest home.

Oak Park is a 20-bed rest home offering single and double rooms to meet personal preferences.

Admission
A bedroom at Oak Park stage 3 dementia unit Admission to Oak Park can be arranged once you have been assessed as requiring the care of a Stage 3 Home. This can be arranged by your GP or Social Worker.

Nursing Care
The resident orientated care delivered at Oak Park is directed and overseen by the Nurse Manager (Susan Le Masurier), who is a Registered Nurse with specific experience and training in Dementia care. The Nurse Manager is supported by an experienced team of caregivers.

All staff at Oak Park are trained specifically in caring for people with Dementia. Staff training is ongoing and supported by outside organisations such as the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Our staff are chosen to ensure a loving supportive environment for our residents is assured. Our staffing ratio enables residents to be carefully monitored day and night.

Security & Safety
The rear garden at Oak Park stage 3 dementia unit Oak Park provides a secure environment with a large enclosed garden area, allowing residents to move in and out of their home for fresh air and exercise. Residents in our care are unable to wander away unaccompanied.

We fully comply with all Health & Safety regulations with smoke detectors, sprinklers and fire safety doors throughout the home. The fire safety doors provide extra security as they prevent the spread of fire.

Diversional Therapy
We believe that activities need to have a purpose for our residents. Our diversional therapy programme is comprehensive. Each activity is designed to support and maintain skills and awareness that our residents have. These activities provide a tool for reminiscence and fun, and include regular music therapy and pet therapy sessions.

The beautiful Cornwall Park next door and surrounding local shops enable residents to enjoy accompanied walks. Residents are often taken to Aranui Home & Hospital for morning tea and concerts.

Visitors
Friends and relatives of residents are welcome at Oak Park every day between 8:00am and 8:00pm and are encouraged to enjoy the gardens and the family / whanau room and deck for quieter visits.

Laundry and Kitchen
Residents at Oak Park have all their laundry needs taken care of, and the in-house kitchen staff prepare delicious, nutritious meals on the premises. This ensures all special dietary needs of residents are catered for. A dietician oversees and approves the menus, providing hands-on quality control and tasty, home cooking. Special Occasion Celebrations
Everyone at Oak Park loves a good party and the staff ensure there are plenty of them. The home celebrates Guy Fawkes, Christmas and Easter every year with additional events including themed parties where family and friends are invited to join the fun.

Physiotherapy Service
We have a qualified contracted physiotherapist and a physiotherapy assistant who are based at Aranui and visit Oak Park weekly and as needed. All residents are assessed on admission and a plan put into place to accommodate their needs. Physiotherapy assessments are also carried out on residents as the needs levels change.

Hairdresser Service
We have an experienced hairdresser who is based at Aranui and visits Oak Park frequently. All appointments can be made through Daffi the site manager.

Podiatry Service
We have a registered podiatrist who visits monthly. All appointments can be made though Daffi the site manager.

Medical Care
We have a dementia specialised general practioner from Greenwood Medical Center who holds a regular weekly clinic at Oak Park, and also provides emergency care throughout the week.

The medical centre provides us with prompt 24-hour medical cover but you are welcome to use your own GP should you wish to.
